James Franco's New Music Video Is a Hazy Trip (Video)

The first music video off James Franco's EP with drag queen and performance artist Kalup Linzy makes no sense -- and we really wouldn't expect anything different from the actor/writer/student/artist/host/musician.

Apparently, Franco's musical endeavor with Linzy is legit. The duo, dubbed Kalup & Franco, will release their first EP, 'Turn It Up,' on July 12. Lucky us -- we all get a preview thanks to their new music video for the song, 'Rising.'

The video is a 3 minute, 53 second trip: a blurry haze dominated mostly by Linzy (he directed and edited the clip), with bits of Franco dropped in to add to the absurdity. We're talking floating heads and superimposed lightning, folks.

"James and I have collaborated for over a year," Linzy said about his new EP with the Oscar-nominated actor, according to Pitchfork. "He contributed vocals during recording sessions. He and I also exchanged video and vocals."

"James and I have both felt that sometimes developing projects separately and then bringing the other in later helps move the projects along," Linzy said. "He is busy with school and films and I pretty much travel the world year round. We're not planning to tour or anything like that for the EP. The music is a part of an ongoing collaboration."
